Friday Cheer at the Supermarket

I'm in a really good mood today so there is no jeer. We really don't need one for the supermarket edition do we? I mean we've all been there, or at least seen it: Kids screaming for candy, eating the grapes, dropping jars of  pickles on the floor, performing death defying stunts in the carts - and the parents standing by as if they were watching an infomercial. There's one at every market. No need to go into the gory details. But on the flip side:

Cheers: To the mom and her little one at the local market. Small child sitting quietly and buckled into the cart. She wasn't crying, whining, or trying to wiggle free. Why? Because you made her part of the process. She helped choose the type of cereal, cookies, jam, helped pick the fruit and veggies. When I got close enough I could see a genius touch - a shopping list that had not only the words, but pictures of the items. The little one happily did her big girl job of reading the list with help from the visual aids. Smart move on the part of mommy.

Momster on the Loose

Welcome to Momster Tales. You're probably expecting another mommy blog. If so, I'm sorry to disappoint you. I haven't been a mommy for a long time. I am firmly in the "Mom" zone. No babies, no toddlers. I do have three super kids who bring me joy and frustration in daily doses. You can find out more about us under the About tab.

Let me tell you a bit about what I'm doing here. Being a parent is a wild ride, and I want to write a bit about what I've learned, pass along some of that knowledge, share some laughs, and generally just have a good time with this whole parenting deal. My kids range in age from 5 to 16 so I'll throw in a bit about each stage and the challenges and oddities to be found in each one. I'd love to hear your opinions too.

I'm not a crafty mom. You won't find anything about scrapbooking or knitting here. I just don't have the knack for that stuff. I do love to cook, so you might find some good recipes for kids, especially the treats little ones like. We spend a lot of time outdoors, and we travel a lot, so I look forward to sharing those fun times.

I don't claim to be a parenting expert (who is, right?), but I will share some ideas and advice that I have found handy. I might ask your advice too. After all, we're all in this thing together.
